Levels

Introductory

An introductory course for students with very limited or no Japanese proficiency. Emphasis is placed on fundamental oral-skills, grammar, and vocabulary to communicate personal and survival needs. Students will learn to read write two kinds Japanese characters, hiragana and katakana.

Beginner

An elementary course for students with limited Japanese proficiency. Emphasis is placed on the development of four basic language skills-- speaking, listening, reading and writing--in Japanese. Students will learn to compose simple sentences with basic nouns, verbs and adjectives. They will be able to use common expressions for every life, ask and respond to simple questions, give information, express basic needs, and make simple requests.

Intermediate

An intermediate course for students who can handle a variety of tasks by using previously learned structures and expressions. Emphasis is placed on the development and expansion of Japanese language skills. Students will learn to initiate and maintain a conversation using compound and complex sentences. They will be able to describe details, explain their own ideas clearly, discuss to solve problem, and compare two or more items.
